CNN —Ancestral African art is a linchpin of identity and a source of inspiration to creatives across the continent. For the first time in the 60-year history of the renowned Venice Biennale in Italy – an arts and culture festival lasting eight months, hosted every other year – Benin is presenting a national pavilion. But as a professional skydiver, BASE jumper, and wing flyer, adventure usually finds him first. Wallis founded BASE Jump Africa in 2017, an online community where adrenaline junkies and fellow international air sports professionals go looking to connect with him for his expertise. He recently assisted with parachutes on the “Mission: Impossible” film franchise with actor Tom Cruise. “Man has always been intrigued by seeing the world from a different perspective,” he says.

Now, in an era of growing concern over privacy, he believes it’s time for us to reclaim our personal data. Through their startup Inrupt, Berners-Lee and CEO John Bruce have created the “Solid Pod” — or Personal Online Data Store. The latter plans to use Pods to let its citizens choose how to share their personal data. A former physicist, Tim Berners-Lee, pictured in 1994, invented the world wide web at the European Organization for Nuclear Research, CERN.
